GUEST ROOM DECONSTRUCTED

The ornament of a house
is the guests who frequent it.
- Ralph Waldo Emerson

It is all very well fantasising about the perfect guest room but the realities of constructing a restful haven are simpler than you think (and very affordable!)

I love Parisian style so in keeping with a similar style to the rest of the house I have continued the look. I have also done this because we are renting this house. Obviously when you are renting a house you are limited to wall, carpet and curtain finishes and this way the decor that I have chosen I will be able to reuse in another room when we move house.

I've given you a breakdown of what my guest room actually cost in order to help you know you can also achieve a beautiful mini room make-over!

BEDDING
I had the bed and base to begin with, which of course is the initial big ticket item, so this is not included in my costing. The linen was my most expensive purchase. I splurged at Provincial Home Living. I just loved the lush black velvet coverlet with french embroidery. That layered with cushions; bold black and white stripe, heirloom white and more black velvet, all with gorgeous scalloped edging to finish. The crisp white 1000 count cotton sheets were from Target. All these prints and patterns are layered together to create warmth and add texture and interest to what was a simple room.

HARRIS SCARFE EURO PILLOWS - TWIN PACK $30.00

MYER WHITE EURO SHAM - PREVIOUSLY OWNED AS PART OF A SET

PROVINCIAL HOME LIVING PILLOW CASES - BLACK VELVET SHAM $29.95, BLACK & WHITE STRIPE $24.95, BLACK STRIP EMBROIDERY $24.95
BED BATH & TABLE WHITE SHAM - $9.95 (CLEARANCE)
PROVINCIAL HOME LIVING BLACK VELVET COVERLET - $179.00
TARGET 1000 THREAD COUNT WHITE SHEETS - $79.00
IKEA DOONA & COVER - PREVIOUSLY OWNED (THIS WAS SUPER CHEAP AND LITERALLY HAS LASTED FOR YEARS!)
HARRIS SCARFE BED SKIRT - $34.95 (ON SALE)

BEDSIDE TABLE
The black bedside tables were bought at the Reject Shop in the bargain area. They were display tables so they had a few marks on top but with a good clean they came up perfect.

REJECT SHOP BEDSIDE TABLES - $25 EACH

WALL ART
This gorgeous Eiffel Tower print suited the Parisian guest room theme perfectly and pulled the theme together perfectly!

TARGET PARIS PICTURE - THIS WAS A GIFT,  SIMILAR ONES CAN BE BOUGHT AT TARGET FOR UNDER $50.00

LAMPS
These gorgeous little lamps were very similar to ones I was eyeing off at another store for over $120.00 but I snapped up these two at Target for a great deal.

TARGET LAMPS - $15.00 EACH

DECORATIVES
All the little decoratives were mine already. The mirrored tissue box was a gift as was the frame, silver birds and glass bowls. You can easily add ornaments to the room from around your house to give the space a personal touch.

A total price of $529.75! A fully furnished, luxurious guest bedroom for under $600. Keeping in mind I did lash out a buy bed linen that was more pricy than you would generally have to pay (and a lot of bed linen!). This breakdown shows you that with a little love and some bargain hunting you can pull a room together that doesn't cost the earth and your guests will appreciate the small details.

So now I'm off to the florist for a beautiful, fresh bunch of flowers to complete the room for my perfect weekend guest!
