A NOT SO TRASHY TRAILER

I am aware that I may be about ten seasons behind when it comes to Desperate Housewives. I also realise that Marcia Cross's trailer has probably been blogged about ten thousand times!

But I only just discovered it when I was searching for glamorous workspace inspiration! I just had to share it with all those who are like me and not up to date with the TV soaps.

This is Marcia Cross from Desperate Housewives and below is her gorgeous set trailer decorated by  LA interior designer Brian Sanders. He describes it as "Walking into a chocolate kiss".

I can see why. It is finished with cocoa coloured sea grass wall coverings, plush chocolate coloured carpet, tiffany blue upholstery, crisp white trims, brown and blue velvets and a mirrored dressing table to add glamour to this stars tiny space.

Can you believe this is a trailer, a caravan to us Aussies. It really does void the term trailer trash. If all caravans looked liked this I think we'd all be living in one or at least I be putting my hand up to come on the next camping trip!

CHEAPER THAN A WALL

If you were to ask an interior designer what was one cheap, yet effective way to bring a sense of atmosphere  into a room, they would say a folding screen is high on their list.

Room dividers are a fantastic piece of furniture that can add a touch of glamour to any room. They also are extremely practical and very functional.

Screens are fabulous if you want to break up a large open plan area.  They are also great if you are faced with an odd shaped room, you can play around with the positioning of the screen to create different spaces or moods. What is so wonderful about this is you are not committed to permanent walls which can be expensive or not an option if you're renting.

They really do decorate a room. There are so many amazing designs and these hinged panels can look especially beautiful when upholstered in lush luxurious fabrics or with a mirrored finishes and let us not forget a lacquered exotic asian inspired landscape.

Not only is a screen beautiful visually, it is their practical possibilities for lovely camouflage that I admire. Everybody needs a place to hide things and screens are perfect for doing just that.

In the bathroom it would be useful for all your toiletries or towels as well as giving your space a feeling of pure indulgence as you dress behind it. The same goes for the bedroom, a place to dress behind or just to hang your clothes - of course they will be going into your newly organised celeb style wardrobe now won't they???

There is such a huge amazing collection of these decorative portable pieces out in the world for you to find. Various styles, sizes, colours, finishes, screens to suit any home decor.

A screen can be a delightful addition to any interior and add character to your perfect dream home.

KELLY WEARSTLER STYLE

The New Yorker dubbed her “the presiding grande dame of West Coast interior design,” but Kelly Wearstler is way more rock star than a dame.

Kelly Wearstler doesn't make apologies for her interiors. She make bold and confident statements through her design. Her interiors make you take notice.

She is not only an author, but a blogger, fashion designer, interior designer and mother of two boys. This LA designer has built an empire that extends across her interiors, furnishing collections, lines of fashion and accessories, books, and television appearances where she is always dressed to impress. “What we’re really creating,” she has said when interviewed by AD magazine, “is the world of.... ” That world of course, is that of Kelly Wearstler.

As an award winning designer, Kelly was named a leader of style in 2010 by Town & Country; she was honored as one of House Beautiful's best designers; she was also named one of the design world's top tastemakers by House & Garden; and member of the elite 'Design 100' by Time Style & Design; and Modern Bride designated Kelly as one of the top 25 trendsetters of the year.

Each one of her designs is unique. And while she is often associated with the revamped Hollywood Regency style, Kelly seems to have surpassed that trend with a stronger look, which has become her signature style.  Focusing more on graphic floor patterns, heavy metal detailing and French and Italian furniture from the late 20th century, which she mixes with her own designs and the occasional classical piece.

Take a look at some of Kelly Wearstler's dazzling rooms that invoke days gone by, with a modern twist and without doubt Kelly's signature style stamp.

Kelly Wearstler has built a profile for herself as colourful as those of her high profile celebrity clients, Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale, among others. Over the past decade, her take on the Hollywood Regency style has created a list of imitators, who gravitate to her  for inspiration on her use of graphic patterns, luxe textures, and eye-popping hues.

Wearstler has said 'People love it or they don't quite get it'.

I love it. There are only certain people who can create these bold and brave interiors. Kelly Wearstler is without doubt the Queen of Hollywood Regency and I plan to take inspiration from her designs into my perfect dream house.

HOLLYWOOD AT HOME

All the glitz and glamour of the Oscars had me daydreaming about the homes that Hollywood's shining stars retreat to after a night on the red carpet. Take a look at these mansions. Oh, to be rich and famous...

OPRAH WINFREY
The talk show queen has spent millions renovating this huge estate in Montecito California. Would you believe it has 14 bathrooms!

JOHN TRAVOLTA AND KELLY PRESTON
John Travolta and Kelly Preston made this their home. The house came complete with a 7,500 foot runway for his jets. When JT purchased the house he had said "When I was a kid, I imagined everyone would have his own plane in the backyard". Clearly if you believe something enough, dreams may come true!

DENZEL WASHINGTON
GEORGE CLOONEY
George Clooney's home overlooks the stunning Lake Como in northern Italy. His 18th Century house has it's own name, Villa Oleandra. The actor said of his purchase 'the best thing I've ever done in my life'.

JENNIFER LOPEZ
CHRISTINA AGUILERA
This is the house that has that amazing, to-die-for, pink shoe wardrobe I showed you in my Closet Confidential blog.

BEN AFFLECK AND JENNIFER GARNER
ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER
JENNIFER ANISTON AND JUSTIN THEROUX
Jennifer Aniston has always has a keen eye for design and architecture. Now Jen and her fiance Justin Theroux are currently renovating a Bel-Air place to call home.

Sigh and daydream......

Do you have a favourite celebrity home?

THE OSCARS GREENROOM

With the 85th annual Academy Awards tomorrow, I am sure people will be glued to their TV screens to check out what the celebrities are wearing - I know I will!

But what about the "greenroom", the stylish room backstage where the stars relax and chat with each other after accepting their awards. As interiors-addicts, we are equally interested to know what glamorous space the celebrities will be inhabiting as well as what frock they are adorning!

This year the space is designed by LA designer Madeline Stuart. Architectural Digest suggests her greenroom will be an elegant Art Deco–style space inspired by Hollywood’s most glamorous era, the 1930s, and one of the men who made Tinseltown chic at that time, MGM art director and set designer Cedric Gibbons.

Talking about her inspiration for the room, Madeline Stuart says “My goal was to create a space where contemporary stars wouldn’t be surprised to bump into Cary Grant or Katharine Hepburn.”

Scroll down to look at some of the past greenrooms by other amazing designers.

Can you imagine being lucky enough to hang out in one of these greenrooms! It is a tough call for my favourite, but I just love the 80th Annual Academy Awards greenroom. This 2008 greenroom was designed by Carleton Varney, president of Dorothy Draper & Co. His inspiration came from Draper’s original sketches for the Beverly Hills Hotel and her 1940s design of the Arrowhead Springs Resort, which was a choice destination among movie stars and industry tycoons of that era. Varney said of his design “I wanted to recall the Golden Age of Hollywood, where a mix of white satin, fringes, mirrors, leather tufting, and crystal were all components." I think Varney created a perfect celebrity greenroom.
Do you have a favourite? If you were to win an Oscar and had to be placed in any of these gorgeous greenrooms which would it be?

IF THEY ZIG YOU ZAG

One of the latest trends to hit our shores is chevron.

Although it has been around forever, it seems to be popping up everywhere at the minute or maybe people are becoming more fearless using it as this trend seems set to stay.

It is as simple as adding an accent cushion or throw, but why do that when you can chevron your entire floor? The Chevron draws you into a room and says notice me. It captures your eye, it's fun and above all it can create a feature. Whether in bold black and white or a more subtle tone on tone, this pattern is the focal point of classic design.

Take a look as the "zig and zag" is fast placing itself on everything!

Did you know it is the design on the Sydney Opera House?

PORTER'S PAINT SHOWROOM - WATERLOO
Porter's Paint in Sydney's Waterloo showroom received a chevron makeover for the launch of Greg Natale's bold striped and chevron wallpaper range - which is in store now.

MISSONI

Fashion house Missoni has used chevron for decades and made it their staple design, though not limiting it to just fashion, we see it in all their homewares; towels, cushions, bedding, and furniture.

Cushion or  floor, bold or subtle, bright or muted - why not try adding a little zig and zag  into your perfectly straight world?
